SUMMERLAND

Popular for its Cape Cod-style homes. Many of its classic wood shingled homes homes have breathtaking views of the Pacific.

Welcome to Summerland

Only minutes away from this beachside enclave is Padaro Lane. Home to many of Santa Barbara’s movie stars and celebrity residents, it’s where some of Santa Barbara’s most extravagant beachfront homes are located. In contrast, this sleepy, quintessential California beach town perched on bluffs overlooking the Pacific ocean, with a five-minute drive from downtown Santa Barbara, less from Montecito, is a laid-back alternative.

While Santa Barbara is known for its Spanish revival architecture, Summerland is popular for its Cape Cod-style homes. Many of its classic wood shingled homes homes have breathtaking views of the Pacific. Others are tucked along peaceful neighborhood lanes that wind through rolling hills.

In 1883, spiritualist and real estate speculator, H.L. Williams discovered and purchased a large tract of land on a sloping hill facing the ocean. Five years later, he divided it into several parcels. After selling them to fellow Spiritualists, who then moved into the area, H.L. Williams established the town. The center of this small enclave became the Spiritualist Church, located where Highway 101 is located today.

A quaint community, it offers a distinctive lifestyle blending a seaside vibe with a varied shopping experience. Along the main street of Lillie Avenue, you’ll encounter a variety of antiques, garden furniture, home goods, local wineries, cafes, restaurants, coffee houses, and more. With spectacular ocean and mountain views, this tiny stretch of land tucked between the freeway and the coastline offers extraordinary privacy and unobstructed access to the Pacific. Summerland is an ideal location for anyone interested in a relaxing vacation home or easy living.
